Hola! My name is Amanda, and I am the Operations Manager at The Fixer. I'm from Mexico, though most people assume I’m from Spain. I grew up in Mexico City, and from a young age, I was fascinated by languages. When I was four, my dad introduced me to Andrea Bocelli, and I couldn’t understand why his words sounded like Spanish but weren’t quite the same. That’s when I asked for a book on how to teach myself Italian – an adult book, no less! That curiosity for languages and cultures never left me. I even attempted German (total failure), but my love for history and travel grew even stronger.

As a kid, I was obsessed with how hotels made magic happen. I’d walk into a perfectly made-up room or see a minibar fully stocked and think, “How did they do that?” I’d ask hotel staff endless questions, trying to understand the behind-the-scenes of hospitality. I was especially in awe of receptionists, they had the power to control rooms, manage bookings, and make decisions. It seemed like the coolest job in the world to me!

When it was time to choose a career, and I wasn’t sure what to do, my parents pointed out that my love for languages, history, and travel all pointed toward the hospitality industry. I studied International Tourism Management in Mexico City, then spent two years in France completing my Master’s degree.

Life eventually brought me to the UK, where I’ve now been for 13 years! All my hospitality experience comes from here – I worked in hotels until 2020, always in reservations. I loved it because it felt like the brain of the hotel. Without reservations, there are no clients! I became a reservations manager, but when COVID hit, the hotel I worked for shut down. And that’s when I discovered The Fixer.

I had always been curious about the travel side of hospitality but had never had the chance to explore it. Then one day, I saw a job post from The Fixer looking for someone who spoke Spanish and was available Sunday to Thursday – the exact schedule I needed at the time. I already knew about The Fixer, and it felt like it was simply meant to be.

I started in January 2021 as a lifestyle manager, and as the company grew, my role naturally evolved into operations a year later. I’ve been in this position for the last two and a half years, and I love it. What makes The Fixer special for me is the international team and the fact that it’s a small company where every voice is heard. Ideas aren’t just thrown out – they’re considered, discussed, and often put into action. That sense of involvement is huge. I can look at projects and milestones and say, I was part of that. I truly feel part of something bigger.

Honestly The Fixer has become like one of my babies – I’m super protective of it! I love crafting unforgettable experiences for clients, knowing that even though we’re behind the scenes, we’re helping create lifelong memories. No two days are the same, and you always have to stay adaptable and ready for whatever comes your way. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, something new and exciting pops up!

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue growing with The Fixer, seeing where we can take the company next, and continuing to create extraordinary experiences for our clients. The journey so far has been incredible, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
